Bourbon Town Council Approves Hirings, Receives Plan Commission Updates

During their June meeting, the Bourbon Town Council approved Police Chief Martin’s request to hire Carl Amsden at full time status.

The Council approved Public Works Superintendent Roger Terry’s request to hire Brandt Miller part time.

Bourbon Fire Department’s Alex Gaughan reported four calls since the last meeting.

Susie Schaetzle, Bourbon Building Commissioner & Zoning Enforcement Officer updated the Council that the Plan Commission tabled a request made by Habitat for Humanity to split two parcels in to three to accommodate a third home at 308 E. Center St. due to a drainage issue on the property that causes the southern part of the property to flood.

The Plan Commission voted 4-0 to sign Resolution 2024-001 to rezone John Bontrager’s parcel from LI (Light Industrial) to B (Two Family / Group Home District). The Council approved the resolution on all three reads.

The Plan Commission also voted 4-0 to adopt and sign Resolution 2024-002 that amends the Ordinance Book. There is a requirement for the Plan Commission to review and update the Ordinance Book every three years. Attorney Alex Hoover will prepare an Ordinance for the next meeting, meanwhile the Council will review the recommended changes.

Attorney Hoover presented the Golf Cart Ordinance for the Town of Bourbon. President Les McFarland asked Hoover to include all motorized vehicles. The Ordinance was tabled to give the Council an opportunity to review the draft and for Hoover to make the requested changes.
