Board of Public Works and Safety Hears Updates, Approves Requests

The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety heard several updates during their regular meeting.

City Engineer Daniel Sellers updated the board that he submitted the annual Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems (MS4GP) report. He highlighted a few items including that the estimate for street sweeping material collected was 754 cubic yards – a dump truck can hold between 10 and 15 cubic yards. Three quarters of a ton of material was cleaned out of the storm sewers.

Plymouth Fire Department (PFD) Chief Steve Holm updated the board that the department was awarded the grant for a fire hydrant at the training tower. Chief Holm has been working with Clerk-Treasurer Lynn Gorski on the final paperwork. Chief Holm expects installation toward the end of summer. The award covered the total cost of $14,000 for the hydrant with no match required.

The Plymouth Fire Department also received a Clinical Affiliation Agreement with The School of EMS which is an online EMS certification training program that operates out of Texas. Attorney Jeff Houin reviewed the agreement. Similar agreements are in place with Goshen Hospital and Ivy Tech. The agreements allow students to ride on the ambulance to complete the requirements for their clinical times. Even though the online training is based in Texas; the students are local and might desire a position with the Plymouth Fire Department once their certification is complete. The board approved entering in to that agreement.

Airport Manager Bill Sheley updated the board that the Board of Aviation Commissioners meeting has been moved from June 11th to June 25th. Two new board members will be sworn in. Bids for the taxiway and snow removal equipment will be open during that time.

In other news the board approved the placement of dumpsters in the alley for necessary construction at St. Thomas Episcopal Church.
