Traffic Stops Result in Arrests

Several people were arrested in traffic stops recently conducted by deputies from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department.

A Marshall County Sheriff’s Deputy initiated a traffic stop Friday, May 3 at 7:11 p.m. ET on Fir Road near 11th Road for a moving violation. During ​the investigation, police say the deputy discovered the driver had given an identification as another person. The ​driver of the vehicle was eventually identified ​as Asia Cheeks, 24, of Ohio. Cheeks was transported and booked into the Marshall County Jail on preliminary charges of operating a motor vehicle without ever receiving a license and false informing.

Marshall County Deputies responded to reports of a possible impaired driver northbound on U.S. 31 near 11th Road Saturday, May 4 just before 4:30 p.m. ET. A Marshall County deputy initiated a traffic stop and during ​the ​investigation, a deputy reportedly discovered evidence of narcotics. Matthew D. Mathis, 44, of Peru, was transported to the Marshall County Jail and booked for possession of a controlled substance and possession of a narcotic.


On May 4, at 8 p.m. ET, Marshall County deputies stopped a vehicle after receiving a FLOCK hit on a license plate saying the registered owner had a suspended license, according to the report. After stopping the vehicle, deputies found that the driver, Honorio Hilario-Manuel, 42, never held a valid driver’s license. He was taken to the Marshall County Jail.

Formal charges will be determined in each case by the Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office.

Suspects are considered innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
