The Marshall County Commissioners passed a resolution in support of Work Zone Awareness Month during their regular meeting Monday, April 1. Plymouth Mayor Robert Listenberger proclaimed April as Work Zone Awareness Month in the City of Plymouth during a press conference Monday afternoon.
The resolution and proclamation both state the same general language on behalf of the Marshall County Commissioners, Mayor Robert Listenberger and the City of Plymouth that all entities recognize that the safety of workers along all Indiana’s roadways is paramount as they ensure the reliance of our communities through the construction, improvement, and maintenance of our City, County, and State’s transportation system, and
Whereas, in 2024, the Commissioners and the City of Plymouth join Benjamin J.W. Fisher Memorial Foundation, Inc., in support of the initiative to expand Work Zone Awareness to the full of Month of April, vital to all who Work and Travel Indiana Roads, and
Whereas, the Commissioners and the City of Plymouth, agree because of Governor Holcomb’s historic infrastructure investments, the Indiana Department of Transportation Next Level Roads projects into the existing work program to combat congestion, improve safety, and ensure a more resilient transportation system, and
Whereas, the Commissioners and the City of Plymouth recognized Indiana crews work in and around live traffic at all times of the day, making an emphasis on safety even more important and
Whereas, the Commissioners and the City of Plymouth recognize drivers should use extra caution in Work Zones, adhere to the posted Work Zone speed limit, and remove all distractions and influences that hinder safe driving, and
Whereas, the Commissioners and the City of Plymouth and Indiana Department of Transportation continues to do its part to improve the safety of workers by setting an example using innovative technology on our roadways, which provides drivers with alerts about active Work Zones and helps them navigate these areas more safely and efficiently, and
Whereas, the Commissioners and the City of Plymouth joins and believes Work Zone Awareness Month is an opportunity to encourage motorists to drive with extra caution in Work Zones,
Jo Whitesell Fisher’s son, Ben Fisher, was killed in a work zone accident in 2019 while performing his duties as a traffic control flagger. Monday, April 1 marked the fourth anniversary of the Benjamin J.W. Fisher Memorial Foundation, Inc.
Representatives of the Benjamin J.W. Fisher Memorial Foundation will also distribute keychains and ask for donations at the four corner intersection of Michigan St. and Jefferson St. on Friday, April 12 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday April 13 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a rain date of April 19 and 20. This outreach will correlate with National Work Zone Awareness Week which is April 15 through 19.
