The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety (BPWS) met Monday evening for their regular meeting.
Plymouth Fire Department (PFD) Chief Steve Holm updated the board that new hire Firefighter and Paramedic John Martin Kauffman worked his first shift Saturday. He was serving his second official shift Monday. Chief Holm reported that it is going well. The fire department has been busy with calls so Kauffman has had a lot of opportunity for diverse training with the team. The fire department is fully staffed at this time.
Cemetery Superintendent Mike Collins requested approval to burn the brush pile on the south end of Oak Hill Cemetery when the weather accommodates a safe burn. The board approved his request.
Park Superintendent Mike Hite was not present at the meeting. On his behalf, City of Plymouth Attorney Jeff Houin requested the board’s approval of an open burn of the brush on the terrace area along the Schuh Ditch on park property. Hite has already discussed safety measures with Chief Holm. His request was approved when the burn can be accommodated safely.
Clerk Treasurer Lynn Gorski presented a request on behalf of St. Michael’s Church to close a portion of Center Street between Monroe Street and Madison Street on Holy Saturday from 7 p.m. to 12 a.m. ET to accommodate the Easter Vigil Mass. Kurt Feece was present to answer questions. This is an annual event. The board approved the request.
