During their regular meeting on Tuesday, the Plymouth Community School Board held a public hearing on the new contract for Superintendent Mitch Mawhorter.
The new contract will give Mawhorter $120,000 in salary for the year, an annuity of $7,200. It includes an annual contribution to the group health, dental, and vision insurance premium of $23,285, along with a gasoline allowance of $3,500 and a phone allowance of $600.
Mawhorter will also have 12 sick days and 20 vacation days in addition to the holiday breaks allowed for staff members in the school year.
The Superintendent’s contract is a 365-day contract that includes working days during the normal “summer break” in the school year.
All numbers in the contract are posted on the school’s website and that link is available here.
During the public meeting, Laura Kruyer of the Plymouth Education Association made a suggestion that the negotiation process for the Superintendent’s contract be an open process much as the negotiation process between the schools and teachers is for their contract.
Kruyer felt that it would provide for more “transparency” in the process for the public to understand that the salary increase and “leave” days were deserved in that process.
Additionally, the board re-organized for the coming year by keeping the same officers of Allie Shook as Board President, Kurt Christiansen as Vice President and Nicole Christy as Secretary.
Sean Surrisi was also introduced as the new legal counsel for the board replacing Jeff Houin.
