Bourbon Town Council Holds Sends Solar Ordinance Back to Plan Commission

The Bourbon Town Council held its regular meeting on Nov. 14.

The Council accepted the resignation of Susie Schaetzle from the Plan Commission as she has taken the position of Bourbon Building Commissioner & Zoning Enforcement Officer.

The Council discussed the Ordinance on Solar Panels which was introduced for consideration by the Plan Commission last month. That Ordinance limits the use of residential solar to flush rooftop mounts that follow the pitch of the roof line. Solar panels should also stay within the square footage of the roof with no overhang.

Member Terry Clemens asked if those restrictions would apply to the two-mile zone. Member of Plan Commission Jonah Best confirmed that the ordinance was intended to apply to the two-mile zone. There was some discussion regarding the difference between solar farms and solar panels.

Clemens questioned if the two-mile zone needed to be included in the town limits restrictions but perhaps could simply include a square footage size limit.

Clemens made a motion to send the ordinance back to the Plan Commission to rework it with more liberal guidelines for the two mile zone; Vice President Les McFarland seconded the motion.

Best requested that Council members be in attendance at the next Plan Commission to clarify the verbiage they want reflected in the ordinance.
