Town of Bourbon Attorney Alex Hoover updated the Council on the American Legal Publishing Corporation Editorial Report during the regular meeting in November.
The report highlights that the speed limit on Sunset Drive is in violation of Indiana Code. A municipality can limit speed to 20 MPH, it is currently set at 15 MPH. Hoover recommended updating that to 20 MPH.
The current Solicitation Ordinance requires a permit to solicit; which Hoover said is reasonable.
However, the editorial points out that a “blanket requirement” such as that could cause an issue regarding religious groups who are otherwise allowed to go door to door without getting a permit.
Hoover’s recommendation was to amend the ordinance to exempt “religious purposes” from the permit requirement.
Both his recommendations were motioned upon and were approved unanimously. Hoover will prepare that documentation for a later meeting.
