The Plymouth Redevelopment Commission was updated by Plymouth City Attorney Sean Surrisi on projects underway in the city’s TIF (Tax Incremental Finance) districts.
The main one on most citizens’ minds continues to be the slow progress on the widening of Hoham Drive just north of town.
The reason for the delay has been the lack of progress from NIPSCO on relocating their high pressure gas lines in the area. The contractor on the project, Milestone, is prepared to place a culvert across Michigan Street as part of the project but cannot continue until NIPSCO completes their utility relocation.
Work was to begin last week on that part of the project but will be delayed with a hopeful start on Monday Sept. 25 pending completion by NIPSCO.
Surrisi said that the project is now having weekly meetings with the contractors and sub-contractors involved and any information on progress will be immediately made available to the public.
He told the Commission that Milestone has not “sounded the alarm” about being able to finish the work by the projected date but noted that paving would need to be completed soon to avoid a delay for the end of the paving season. Milestone still believes they will have enough time to complete their work by December with the help of the weather.
Surrisi said the traffic markings may have to wait until spring.
Key Bank continues to be the business most affected by the road closures and the city continues to work with them on solutions to the problem.
