Bourbon Town Council Grants Requests, Hears Public Input

During the regular meeting in July, the Bourbon Town Council approved a fund raiser request made by the Triton Music Department to use the employee parking lot at the Street Garage on Center Street to hold a car wash in August.  The date was not reported during the meeting.

Lonny Berkey requested utilization of the pavilion in the Bourbon Town Park for Bourbon Summer Fest Pageant practices; the council approved and waived any fees.

The council also approved $300 to support the 36th annual Show n’ Shine Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show which will be held on Sunday, August 13. Registration begins at 8 a.m., awards at 3 p.m. ET.

Resident Johnny Tacket approached the council during patron’s comments regarding his pond; expressing concerns about some film / scum on the surface of the pond and dead fish. President Ward Byers noted that the Bourbon Utilities Department conducted water testing which revealed normal ranges. Byers also spoke with the Marshall County Surveyor’s Office regarding the regulated drain; a contractor has been hired and scheduled to clean the drain. Tacket expressed additional concerns regarding the water quality. Byers asked if Tacket reached out the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) for assistance; Tacket responded that they would not assist on private property. Byers asked about the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM). Vice President Les McFarland asked Tacket if he had Purdue conduct any testing; he had. Clerk-Treasurer Kim Berger offered Tacket a copy of the results obtained from the studies that the town conducted. Byers noted that ultimately the Drainage Board has legal authority over the drain; and expressed hope that the Indiana State Department of Health might be able to assist Tacket in resolving his concerns.
