The Bourbon Town Council recently discussed an ordinance pertaining to police issued handguns which was originally presented during the April meeting.
As previously reported, the ordinance would establish a process by which the Town of Bourbon and the council, at their discretion, would provide an officer with their issued handgun as a retirement recognition. The ordinance required that an officer must have served Bourbon with the Police Department for 20 consecutive years to be eligible.
Amendments were requested during the meeting in April to give the council more authority to issue the handgun for certain special cases even if the officer had not served for 20 consecutive years. Amendments were made; however Attorney Hoover was not present to review those changes with the Council and it was requested that the matter be tabled until the next meeting.
The ordinance will be on the agenda for the next meeting which will be held Tuesday, June 13 at 6 p.m. ET at the Bourbon Town Hall.
