PLYMOUTH — Plymouth Police Department (PPD) Chief David Bacon updated the Plymouth Board of Public Works during their last March meeting that new Officer Kenton Lovely was sworn in. He also updated the board that PPD is down two squad cars due to two accidents.
The first vehicle was damaged by a deer; the second was damaged when a driver pulled out of a driveway and struck the officer’s vehicle.
The body shop has estimated that both vehicles will be totaled. Chief Bacon wasn’t asking the board for any action that evening; but wanted to inform them of the situation. Chief Bacon is letting the K-9 Officer use his vehicle in the meantime.
Due to limited production of all vehicles, particularly those with police packages, Chief Bacon is considering civilian and used models with certain accommodations for administration.
PPD previously got away from purchasing civilian models in the past because keeping all vehicles police rated resulted in the ability to loan his vehicle to his officer while theirs is out of commission, such as with the K-9 Officer.
In other news, Cemetery Superintendent Mike Collins requested permission to burn the brush pile with the assistance of Plymouth Fire Department Chief Steve Holm as they have done in years past. His request was approved.
City of Plymouth Mayor Mark Senter thanked the Plymouth Police Department and the Plymouth Fire Department for their response to the fire on Jefferson St. that occurred late March.
The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety meets again on Monday, April 10 at 6 p.m. in the Plymouth Council Chambers. Please enter at the Garro Street entrance.
