Fire Weather Watch In Effect Today

The National Weather Service of Northern Indiana has issued a Fire Weather Watch for several Indiana counties including Marshall, St. Joseph, Starke, Pulaski and La Porte.

The Fire Weather Watch remains in effect from this afternoon until 8 p.m. ET. The National Weather Service is expecting an elevated fire danger for the entire listed area.

Winds are expected to be coming from the southwest up 15 to 20 miles per hour. Gusts could be up to 30 miles per hour with a very low humidity expected at 25 percent. Temperatures are expected to reach 76 to 80 degrees. The combination of strong winds, very low relative humidity and abnormally dry conditions will likely promote rapid spread of any fires.

The threat will be greatest in rural areas where fine dead fuels will continue to dry out and be susceptible to rapid fire spread from any ignition source. Outdoor burning is not recommended. A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditions are forecast to occur. Listen for later forecasts and possible Red Flag Warnings.
