Indiana is directing a portion of its federal COVID-19 money to childcare providers. Childcare and out-of-school programs can apply for funding to cover three months of operating costs, under the new Build, Learn, Grow Stabilization Grants program.
The Family and Social Services Administration says the grants can be used on personnel, rent, facility improvements, and COVID-19 safety, among other expenses. Grants will be awarded on a rolling basis, with a final deadline of December 30, but additional rounds of funding are expected in the future.
The FSSA says the $540 million program is made possible by funding the state got from the American Rescue Plan Act. More than 3,600 childcare providers serving more than 100,000 children are eligible to apply.
