Bremen Public Schools will require students and staff to wear face masks starting Tuesday. In a notice on the school corporation’s website Friday, Superintendent Dr. Jim White said that after a great deal of consultation with the Marshall County Health Department, he feels it’s a necessary step to promote the health and safety of staff and students.
White said that over the past 10 days, Bremen Public Schools has had 127 students and 17 staff members have to quarantine due to COVID-19 exposure. Thirty students and eight staff members have tested positive.
Requiring face masks means the school corporation will no longer have to quarantine students and staff due to COVID-19 exposure in the classroom. White notes that will allow otherwise healthy students and staff members to continue their studies and duties in person, while also allowing middle school students to resume their normal class rotation.
White says masks will not be required for extracurricular activities, but those exposed to COVID-19 there may still have to quarantine. The superintendent promises that the mask mandate will shift back to a recommendation when Marshall County returns to the yellow status on the Indiana Department of Health’s County Metrics Map.
