Booster Doses of Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine Now Available for Eligible Hoosiers

Certain individuals can now get a booster dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. The Indiana Department of Health says the CDC has recommended a booster dose to counter waning immunity in specific populations, following the FDA’s expansion of its emergency use authorization.

Those who are eligible can get the booster shot at least six months after their second dose of the Pfizer vaccine. The CDC recommends that those 65 and older, residents of long-term care facilities, and individuals age 50 to 64 with underlying medical conditions that put them at high risk of severe COVID-19 get the booster shot. Individuals age 18 and up who have underlying medical conditions or are at high risk of COVID-19 exposure and transmission may consider getting the booster.

The booster shot is only available to those who’ve gotten the Pfizer vaccine, not Johnson & Johnson or Moderna. However, the FDA had previously authorized a third dose of Pfizer and Moderna specifically for immunocompromised individuals who did not build protection.

You can find a list of vaccination sites offering the Pfizer vaccine at ourshot.in.gov or by calling 211. Those getting the booster shot are asked to bring their vaccination card.
