Marshall County’s unemployment rate is down, but so is the number of residents working. The county’s unemployment rate dropped from 3.6 percent in June to 3.1 percent in July, according to the latest report from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.
That wasn’t because more people are working but because fewer people are in the labor force. The number of Marshall County residents employed is believed to have dropped by 33 from June to July.
Elkhart County had the lowest July unemployment rate of Marshall County’s neighbors at 2.9 percent, while Starke County’s is highest at 5.1 percent. The state as a whole had a non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 4.2 percent, while the national rate was 5.7 percent.
