Leading police on a chase through Marshall County without a driver’s license while in possession of marijuana is what officers say landed a South Bend teen in jail Thursday. Indiana State Police say it began just before 9:00 a.m. on U.S. 31 near Veterans Parkway.
A trooper says he saw a Nissan SUV approaching him from behind at 100 miles per hour. He tried to pull it over, but when he got out of his police car, it reportedly sped off.
Police say the Nissan continued southbound on U.S. 31 to eastbound U.S. 30, looping back northbound on U.S. 31 and back to Veterans Parkway. The Nissan reportedly exited westbound, and a Marshall County sheriff’s deputy took the lead in the chase at the Michigan Road roundabout. Police say the pursuit continued through Plymouth and Argos, before the Nissan finally stopped at Old 31 and Fulton County Road 700 North.
The driver, 18-year-old Da Qua Micou, is accused of resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, reckless driving, operating a vehicle without ever receiving a license, and possession of marijuana. A passenger, 19-year-old Malik Clark of South Bend, is accused of possession of marijuana.
Marshall County, Plymouth, and Argos Police assisted the Indiana State Police.
