A number of local lakes are set to get some investment, thanks to the latest round of Lake and River Enhancement grants from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. Bruce Lake in Fulton and Pulaski counties was awarded more than $32,000 for sediment removal.
Funding was also provided to help manage invasive aquatic plants at local waterways: almost $24,000 for Lake of the Woods in Marshall County, more than $22,000 for Koontz Lake, and $5,000 apiece for Bass Lake and Bruce Lake.
The DNR says both types of projects can help improve recreational opportunities. LARE grants are funded by boat registration fees. Local project sponsors must provide a 20-percent local match. Almost half a million dollars was awarded statewide in the program’s latest round.
