A state representative from Evansville has been named Indiana’s next secretary of state. Holli Sullivan has been selected by Governor Holcomb to fill the remainder of Connie Lawson’s term.
During a press conference announcing her appointment Tuesday, Sullivan said her top priority will be safeguarding Indiana’s elections. “When I look at Indiana, I have the utmost confidence in Indiana’s election, and I hope that Hoosiers around the state do,” she said. “The ones that I have talked to here recently absolutely share that confidence, and I think that’s where we’re going to focus and that’s the election that we’re going to continue to defend.”
Sullivan also highlighted her engineering background and said she plans to apply her process management experience when planning for future election infrastructure needs.
Holcomb noted that Sullivan worked closely with Lawson on election cybersecurity legislation leading up to the 2020 election cycle and he anticipated an “almost seamless transition.” “To be able to hit the ground running on day one, minute one, hour one, because of all your work and collaboration together to get to this moment, and as you and I talked, the Lawson legacy leaves big shoes to fill, but you are the absolute perfect leader to do that,” the governor said.
Sullivan said she learned of her appointment over the weekend and took the oath of office Tuesday afternoon.
