Indiana’s secretary of state is stepping down. In a press release Monday, Connie Lawson said she is resigning to focus on her health and family. She plans to submit a formal resignation once Governor Holcomb selects a replacement.
Lawson is Indiana’s longest-serving secretary of state. She was appointed to the office in 2012 by Governor Mitch Daniels and won election in 2014 and 2018. Before that, Lawson served for 16 years in the Indiana State Senate and for eight years as Hendricks County clerk.
In a statement Monday, Governor Holcomb congratulated Lawson on her retirement, saying that she “has long defined what true public service and leadership is and ought to be all about.”
