A restructuring is planned for the organization in charge of the Marshall County Fairgrounds. Over the next few weeks, the Marshall County 4-H Fair Association, Inc. will become the Marshall County Fair Association, Inc. The change was announced Friday by Purdue University, its Marshall County Extension staff, the Marshall County 4- H Council, and the Marshall County 4-H Fair Association, Inc.
They note that the board that operates the fairgrounds is a 4-H affiliate, which, in turn, means that it’s connected to Purdue University. But they say that arrangement put in place more than 75 years ago could not have anticipated the addition of year-round facilities at the fairgrounds, like the new Marshall County Community Center.
The entities say the new organizational structure will give the county fair more flexibility and “allow the fairgrounds to reinvest in itself and continue to support the 4-H program in Marshall County.” Even though 4-H will no longer be in the association’s name, they stress that the fair and its support of 4-H youth will remain the same.
