Another COVID-19 death has been reported in Marshall County. It occurred on December 17, according to Sunday’s update from the Indiana Department of Health. That brings the county’s total death count up to 72.
The number of new cases in Marshall, Starke, and Pulaski counties is in the single digits, as fewer tests were given over the Christmas holiday. Marshall and Starke counties each added four cases to their counts, while Pulaski County added two.
The state as a whole reported 1,844 additional cases, the smallest single-day increase in months. A total of 493,841 COVID-19 cases have been reported in Indiana since March.
According to the most recent estimates from the Regenstrief Institute, almost 17 percent of those who’ve tested positive visited the emergency room, almost nine percent were hospitalized, and 1.5 percent were admitted into intensive care.
More than 84 percent of those who’ve tested positive are estimated to have recovered. That estimate is based on the number of people who’ve tested positive, were never hospitalized, and have had three weeks to recover, plus the number of people who’ve tested positive, were hospitalized, but have been out of the hospital for at least a week.
Almost 7,500 Hoosiers have died while positive for COVID-19, with 35 new deaths added to the count Sunday.
