Much of the state’s COVID-19 map is now in the orange, amid record numbers of new cases and hospitalizations. Locally, Starke and Pulaski counties are both coded orange, while Marshall County is the only one in the area to stay yellow.
Indiana set another single-day record for COVID-19 cases reported, with 3,756 added to the Indiana Department of Health’s count on Wednesday. That includes another 55 Marshall County residents, the county’s largest single-day increase since early July. That brings Marshall County to a total of 1,777 cases since the pandemic began. Starke County had 16 new cases, for a total of 574. Pulaski County had another seven residents test positive, to bring the total to 219.
The COVID-19 outbreak at the Pulaski Health Care Center in Winamac has made it onto the state’s long term-care facility dashboard. Eleven residents there tested positive for COVID-19 late last month. At least one but fewer than five of them have died. Five staff members have also tested positive. Pilgrim Manor in Plymouth has also reported its first resident case or cases. Fewer than five residents have tested positive.
Indiana also reported the highest number of COVID-19 hospitalizations since the pandemic began, at almost 1,900. Another 25 Hoosiers have died, bringing the state’s total number of confirmed deaths to 4,224. More than 2,400 of them were long-term care residents.
