The COVID-19 death toll continues to increase in Starke and Marshall counties. Another two Starke County residents are confirmed to have died, according to Wednesday’s update from the Indiana Department of Health. That brings the county’s total number of COVID-19 deaths up to 10. Marshall County had one more death, for a total of 29.
More than 1,500 Marshall County residents have tested positive since the start of the pandemic, with 38 new cases reported Wednesday. Another 13 Starke County residents have tested positive, bringing the total to 473. Pulaski County added three cases, for a revised total of 181.
This week’s color-coded map of COVID-19 spread moves Starke County back to the orange level, while Marshall and Pulaski counties remain yellow. Only three of Indiana’s 92 counties are in the blue, minimal-spread category.
When it comes to long-term care facilities, Miller’s Merry Manor in Plymouth and Signature Healthcare of Bremen are the only ones locally that have had any resident cases show up on the state’s dashboard, although a few have reported staff cases. However, the state’s long-term care dashboard lags behind reporting by a week, and the Pulaski Health Care Center in Winamac said it had 11 resident cases, as of this Tuesday.
More than 169,000 Hoosiers have tested positive for COVID-19 since the pandemic began. Almost 4,000 are confirmed to have died.
