New COVID-19 cases remain in the double digits in Starke and Marshall counties. Another 29 Marshall County residents have tested positive, according to Friday’s update from the Indiana Department of Health. That brings the county’s total up to 1,578.
The number of COVID-19 cases in Starke County has now surpassed 500, with 10 new cases reported Friday. Pulaski County had one new case for a total of 188.
The state as a whole reported just over 3,200 new cases Friday, bringing the total to almost 176,000. That’s the second-highest increase after Thursday’s report and the second day in a row that number surpassed 3,000.
The Indiana Department of Health is also reporting a record number of new tests reported in a single day, with more than 41,000 included in Friday’s report. But some of those are apparently older negative tests that were added to the list when a new lab joined the state’s electronic reporting system.
On top of that, seven-day positivity rates remain high, according to the state’s calculations. Marshall County’s rate stands at 20.5 percent, Starke County’s went up to 18.3 percent, and Pulaski County’s dropped slightly to 6.3 percent for unique individuals. Positivity rates are lower when repeat tests are counted.
Another 26 COVID-19 deaths were reported in Indiana Friday, bringing the state’s total confirmed death count to 4,050.
