A COVID-19 vaccine is still months away, but Indiana Department of Health Chief Medical Officer Dr. Lindsay Weaver says health officials are making sure they’ll be ready.
“The latest we’ve heard is that limited supplies might be available by the end of the year,” Weaver said during Wednesday’s press conference. “That means distribution in phase one will be focused on the health care workforce and those who are at the greatest risk for complications of death from COVID.”
Dr. Weaver said the state’s interim draft vaccination plan was turned in to the CDC last Friday. She said it was put together with input from a number of advisory groups from various disciplines.
Until a vaccine is ready, Weaver reminds Hoosiers to continue to wear a mask, practice social distancing, and participate in contact tracing.
