There were fewer Marshall County residents working in September than the month before, even as the county’s unemployment rate continues to drop. Its September unemployment rate was 4.7 percent, according to the latest report from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.
That’s down from 5.3 percent in August. But the number of Marshall County residents employed is believed to have dropped by 323, as the county’s labor force has shrunk slightly. Its unemployment rate is still more than two percentage points higher than it was at this time last year.
The trend was similar around Indiana. The state had a non-seasonally adjusted rate of 5.8 percent last month, while the U.S. rate was 7.7 percent. St. Joseph County has the highest unemployment rate of Marshall County’s neighbors at 7.3 percent.
