The U.S. Department of Agriculture is trying to make it easier for children to keep getting free meals. The USDA announced Monday that it’s extending the Summer Food Service Program, as well as a number of COVID-19-related waivers, through the fall.
Among other things, that lets schools provide students with free meals, without necessarily having to meet the usual guidelines, according to a USDA press release. The USDA says it doesn’t have enough money from Congress to continue the program for the entire school year, but there should be enough to get to the end of 2020.
