The John Glenn School Board continues moving ahead with financing for a proposed renovation project at North Liberty Elementary School.
Superintendent Christopher Winchell says the school board recently approved a pair of resolutions letting the school corporation transfer ownership of part of the school to a legally-separate building corporation. “We basically approved the formation of our building corporation committee, and then we also gave official approval for that building corporation committee to serve as the leaseholder,” Winchell says.
He explains that the lease-rental process lets the school corporation borrow more money than it could with a general obligation bond. The project includes heating and cooling upgrades, LED lighting, a secured entry, new windows, and the installation of solar panels. New windows at Walkerton Elementary School would also be included in the scope of this project.
Meanwhile, Winchell says the John Glenn School Board also chose a new vice president and secretary. “Mr. Bill Groves was nominated to move from secretary to vice president,” Winchell says. “He accepted that nomination. And then also, Mr. Bob Borlik was nominated to step in as the new secretary. He also accepted that nomination.”
The reorganization was prompted by the resignation of Jeff Johnson. He recently stepped down to take a maintenance position at the school corporation. Ryan Knowlton was recently appointed to fill the vacancy on the school board.
