Miller’s Merry Manor of Plymouth has now had 19 of its residents die after testing positive for COVID-19. The facility has had a total of 61 resident COVID-19 cases, according to the latest numbers from the Indiana State Department of Health. Forty-one of those were from tests taken on July 3. Thirty-seven staff members at the facility have also tested positive.
All of those numbers can be found in the new LTC tab on the state’s COVID-19 Data Report. During state officials’ COVID-19 press conference Wednesday, Family and Social Services Administration Chief Medical Officer Dr. Dan Rusyniak said it puts every facility’s COVID-19 data on a statewide map.
“On the map, we have three toggles: one to show all of the long-term care facilities in our database – and this will allow the public to zoom in and identify facilities in their area,” Rusyniak explained. “Clicking on any dot will change the tiles at the top of the dashboard to represent the new and cumulative totals for that specific facility. Hovering over any dot will also show these numbers but will not change the tiles. The other map toggles will show only those facilities who have, to date, reported a positive case or death.”
While the state’s general COVID-19 data is updated every day, Rusyniak said the long-term care dashboard will only be updated every Wednesday. Even then, the data will be a week behind, to give health officials a chance to verify cases and deaths. He also noted that the number of cases at each individual facility, if added together, may be greater than the official state total, since some staff members work at multiple facilities and residents may be transferred from one to another.
Locally, Miller’s Merry Manor of Plymouth is the only facility in Marshall, Starke, or Pulaski counties to report any resident cases or deaths. A few have had staff members test positive, though. Miller’s Merry Manor of Culver, Signature Healthcare of Bremen, Pilgrim Manor in Plymouth, Golden Living Center in Knox, and Pulaski Healthcare Center in Winamac have each had fewer than five positive staff cases.
Statewide, 1,753 long-term care residents have died of COVID-19, along with 11 staff members.
