Efforts to make electric vehicle charging stations more easily available are getting a boost. Schools, government entities, and nonprofit organizations looking to add charging stations may have a chance to get grant funding. South Shore Clean Cities is teaming up with NIPSCO on the Project Plug-IN program.
South Shore Clean Cities says it will work with organizations to apply for grants through the Indiana Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Trust Fund. Governmental entities can get up to $9,000 with a 90-percent match reimbursement, while nonprofit organizations can get up to $8,000 with an 80-percent match reimbursement. On top of that, NIPSCO is pledging to chip in another $500 for each successful grant application.
To qualify, applicants must be NIPSCO customers and members of the Northern Indiana Green Fleet Program. For-profit businesses are not eligible. Applications are due to South Shore Clean Cities by September 9. For more information, email info@southshorecleancities.org or call 219-644-3690.
