State health officials say they’re keeping an eye on the safety of farm workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
During last week’s COVID-19 briefing, State Health Commissioner Dr. Kris Box said the state departments of health and agriculture have a team in place to address the safety needs of migrant workers, “The need for testing, the need for evaluating if they have any signs or symptoms, the ability to make sure that individual teams could be socially distanced and separated and we could take individuals that needed to be quarantined or isolated and they could have separate living quarters because it’s oftentimes the congregate living that becomes more of an issue.”
Box added that officials with the CDC have been “very impressed” with the steps Indiana has taken to protect workers.
