Plymouth Long-Term Care Facility Reports Nine COVID-19 Deaths, 50 Residents Infected

Indiana has released a preliminary list of COVID-19 cases at each long-term care facility. Locally, Miller’s Merry Manor of Plymouth reported nine resident deaths, 50 residents infected, and 29 staff members infected. The data released by the Indiana State Department of Health Wednesday includes cases from the start of the pandemic up until July 14.

Meanwhile, Signature Healthcare of Bremen reported no resident infections but five COVID-19 cases among its staff. The Pulaski Health Care Center in Winamac had fewer than five staff cases, but no residents testing positive.

For the most part, the rest of the long-term care facilities in Marshall, Starke, and Pulaski counties reported zero cases. Golden Living Center of Knox still hadn’t turned in all of the requested data to the state.

During state officials’ COVID-19 press conference Wednesday, Family and Social Services Administration Chief Medical Officer Dr. Dan Rusyniak said the state expects to launch a long-term care COVID dashboard in the next three weeks. “This dashboard will include aggregate numbers but will also allow users to search by individual facility name or to locate a facility on a statewide map,” Rusyniak explained. “Because of our enhanced data collection tools, we will better be able to verify reported cases across multiple databases, and we’ll be able to develop additional features in the weeks after the initial release.”

He said the state as a whole has seen 1,390 deaths among long-term care residents. That’s more than half of all COVID-19 deaths in the state. Twelve long-term care facility staff members have also died.
