Marshall County’s unemployment rate is heading back up, even as the number of residents working is also increasing. The county’s June unemployment rate was 11.3 percent, up from 10 percent the month before, according to the latest report from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.
But the report also shows over 1,000 more Marshall County residents working in June than the month before. More people appear to be actively looking for work, increasing the county’s labor force. In any case, the county’s unemployment rate is still a lot higher than it was in June of 2019, when it was just three percent.
Marshall County has once again surpassed the state and national unemployment rates. Indiana and the U.S. both reported a non-seasonally adjusted rate of 11.2 percent last month. Kosciusko County has the lowest unemployment rate of Marshall County’s neighbors at nine percent, while St. Joseph County’s is highest at 13.4.
