Marshall County residents are heading back to work. The Indiana Department of Workforce Development’s May report showed that over 2,300 more Marshall County residents were employed than the month before.
The county’s unemployment rate eased considerably, going from 18.4 percent down to 10 percent. But that’s still much higher than pre-COVID-19 levels. In May of 2019, it was just 2.8 percent.
Kosciusko County has the lowest unemployment rate of Marshall County’s neighbors at 8.8 percent, while St. Joseph County’s is highest at 13. Marshall County’s unemployment rate is back below the state and federal levels. Indiana saw a non-seasonally adjusted rate of 11.9 percent last month, while the U.S. rate was 13 percent.
