Point-of-Care Testing for COVID-19 Coming to Indiana

The capability to complete COVID-19 tests in a matter of minutes may soon be coming to Indiana.

State Health Commissioner Dr. Kris Box said Wednesday that the state has gotten 15 point-of-care testing machines from Abbott, “which means that we will be able to test, in a period of 15 to 30 minutes, an individual. Unfortunately, we only got five cartridges with it, so we can test about 124 people, and a lot of that, at first, will go toward testing so that we can verify that people have been checked out on the machine.”

Box had announced earlier this week that the state would only be getting five of the machines, before the number went back up to 15 on Wednesday. Box also said that Abbott has promised to provide regular supplies of testing cartridges going forward.
