Marshall County’s Unemployment Rate Rises to 3.6 Percent

Marshall County’s unemployment rate moved higher at the beginning of the year. Its January unemployment rate was 3.6 percent, according to the latest report from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

While that’s up from 2.8 percent the month before, it’s lower than it was during the same period last year, when the rate was 4.3 percent. Still, the number of Marshall County residents employed dropped between January of 2019 and January of 2020, as the labor force has shrunk somewhat.

Marshall County’s January unemployment rate of 3.6 percent was the same as Indiana’s non-seasonally adjusted rate. The U.S. as a whole had a non-seasonally adjusted rate of four percent. Elkhart County had the lowest unemployment rate of Marshall County’s neighbors at three percent, while Starke County’s was highest at 5.1 percent.
