The Indiana State Department of Health is now accepting grant applications that will help give rural communities access to intranasal naloxone kits.
Only first responders who provide services in rural communities are eligible to receive the kits. Agencies in Marshall, Pulaski and Starke Counties would all be eligible.
It’s important to note that for the purpose of this grant, there are various agencies that would fall under the category of ‘first responder’. Eligible agencies include law enforcement, fire and emergency medical services as well as parole officers, corrections officials and schools.
If there is an agency you belong to that isn’t listed but could be considered a first responder, IDHS officials suggest reaching out to Naloxone Program Manager Cassidy Johnson by emailing casjohnson@isdh.in.gov or calling 317-234-6425.
Either a local health department or first responder organization may fill out the application. However, a representative from the rural first responder agency must be listed as the primary contact and the address on the application should be that of the agency.
This grant opportunity runs through September of this year. The first responder organizations that receive naloxone doses will be responsible for administering them and reporting use to the ISDH through the required methods.
