Triton Superintendent Jeremy Riffle recently congratulated senior student Whytnie Miller for being one of the recipients of this year’s W.B. Hawkins Award.
Riffle noted that Miller has been nothing short of an inspiration to her teammates and classmates and shared that she continues to be a leader and student advocate at Triton Jr./Sr. High School.
He highlighted that Miller proudly serves as a member of the ‘Senior Squad’ and was chosen by the class of 2019 as a leader and someone who would carry on the tradition of impact.
Miller is active in local philanthropic efforts and has joined up with fellow Senior Squad members and other Triton scholars who participated in Triton Gives Back and the Feed My Starving Children packing event. Most recently, the Senior Squad helped served injured military personnel by giving time to Operation Quiet Comfort.
Superintendent Riffle mentioned that while Miller faced adversity, she remains positive in the midst of tearing both ACL’s and most recently dislocating her shoulder. He said if anyone could be bitter, it would be her, but instead she has chosen to remain positive, impacting those around her with a passion to live life to the fullest and continue to changer her world for good.
Our correspondents at Sports to the Max report that officials from Teachers Credit Union announced that Miller and New Prairie Senior Chase Ketterer, were the 2020 award recipients Friday night at the conclusion of the 55th annual TCU Bi-County Basketball Tournament.
As recipients, each student will receive a $1,000 scholarship in recognition of their achievements in academics, athletics, and community service.
