The Bourbon Town Council addressed some documents related to the Matchette Center when members met earlier this month.
Draft minutes from their January meeting indicate that Council President Ward Byers introduced an ordinance that would rescind ordinances from 2010 and 2013 and set rental rates for the Matchette Center as well as the Bourbon Park pavilion.
A discussion about potentially raising the rates ensued. In order to investigate the associated fees, members ultimately decided to table any action until their next meeting.
Additionally, a contract between the Town of Bourbon and Dena Wattenbarger for managing the Matchette Center was presented.
According the meeting minutes, Wattenbarger, who started handling the Center back in 2004, questioned why a contract was needed since there has never been one in the past.
Council President Byers responded that it’s being proposed as a way to protect the Town and so there’s more transparency for the State Board of Accounts.
Wattenbarger informed the council that she wasn’t going to sign it until she had a chance to review it further.
Clerk-Treasurer Kim Berger noted that the document was shared with Wattenberger the night of the meeting and she hadn’t had the opportunity to thoroughly look it over on her own.
She added that the contract would move some of the financial and booking responsibilities that Wattenbarger previously took care of over to the Clerk-Treasurer’s office.
The Council members voted to table the contract until their February meeting.
