The City of Plymouth will have representation on the Marshall County Unsafe Building Committee following an appointment that was approved during the final City Council meeting in November.
City Attorney Sean Surrisi highlighted one situation that sort of brought this matter to the forefront.
He noted, “You may recall some of the discussion over the last couple of months about property out on Manor Drive and the interplay between the unsafe building ordinance of the County and the City within the two-mile jurisdiction.”
Surrisi mentioned that he and Plymouth Building Commissioner Keith Hammonds attended the Unsafe Building Meeting in October and have had follow-up conversations with county officials such as the county attorney, the executive director of the health department and the county building commissioner as well as other representatives.
Surrisi said that a suggestion came out of those talks.
He shared, “It was determined that it would be advisable to have a Plymouth representative on the Unsafe Building Committee for the County. It would keep us in better communication and in taking those steps, this is just formally asking your appointment of Keith Hammonds to that position.”
The appointment was approved unanimously. Hammonds had previously brought this topic up to the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety during a meeting in September.
