A familiar presence at Plymouth Community Schools will soon be stepping down. Last month, the school board accepted the retirement of Athletic Office Aide John Scott. High School Athletic Director Michael Delp took some time to recognize Scott during the board’s December meeting.
“He is going to resign on January 2,” Delp said. “That will be his sixth decade serving Plymouth Community Schools. John was my fifth grade teacher.”
Delp noted that Scott has served as football announcer for 25 years, and he never missed a game. He’s also announced baseball games for 20 years, along with countless other events. Delp said Scott doesn’t appear to be planning to stay on as announcer, but he promised board members he’d work on it.
During last week’s meeting, the school board voted to move Brad Parkhurst into the athletic aide position. Delp noted that Parkhurst is a 1988 Plymouth High School graduate.
He has held several positions in the school corporation in the past few years, and Delp said he’s gone above and beyond in his work with the football, basketball, and baseball teams over the past six years. Parkhurst told board members that he’s thankful for the opportunity, and he felt the new role is something that fits him very well.
