While outlining the preliminary schematic designs for the additional inmate housing pod at the Marshall County Jail last Tuesday, RQAW reps mentioned the importance of incorporating rehabilitation spaces into the facility.
The plan would bring about 320 new beds into the facility. Company representatives shared that the design includes different housing types including four-person cells as well as a few dormitory style spaces.
In addition to housing options, the proposed pod will also include a new medical exam space, a padded cell as well a video court room and other resource spaces. These spaces are intended to enhance the safety of jail staff and the inmates.
It was noted that the company has made a concentrated effort over the last few years to make rehabilitation resources accessible within their facilities.
It was explained, “There’s a deliberate focus on providing the types of spaces that enhance the opportunity for rehabilitation. These components right here are a big part of that.”
In addition to being used more frequently because of their accessibility the placement of these facilities is also expected to enhance safety because the inmates won’t have to be transferred across the entire facility in order to get the care they need.
