The Bremen School Board approved raises for administrators when members met for their December meeting.
Superintendent Dr. Jim White shared which positions were included when they were considering these pay increases.
He noted, “That’s the principals, assistant principals, our curriculum director, our special-ed director and our athletic director.”
Dr. White also provided some information about how the raises are typically determined.
He stated, “Normally I take the exact same raise the teachers get divide it up by 185 days for their contract and that comes out to ‘X’ amount per day and then a lot of the administrators are on longer contracts for 220-240 days so then I just multiple that per day rate times their contracts to get an equitable raise for them.”
However, this year, Dr. White said he deviated from the standard formula for the pay adjustments for assistant principals in order to stay competitive with surrounding school corporations.
He explained, “When I did some benchmarking with other Marshall County schools, the assistant principals, for their years of service were slightly below the average and so I moved them up a little bit more than I normally do.”
Dr. White continued, “So I went ahead and just picked an arbitrary number of around six-hundred and twelve bucks and tried to move those three a little closer to the average salary in the area.”
With the exception of the assistant principals, the formula that Dr. White provided was utilized to determine the increases for rest of the administrative positions.
Dr. White added that if you combine all the raises and adjustments for all involved, the total amount came to about $18,464.
He noted that the rates for administrators are reviewed on an annual basis to ensure that the Bremen School Corporation is doing what they can to fairly compensate school officials in those positions.
