The Marshall County Coroner’s Office has issued a news release about a fatal fire that occurred Friday afternoon.
According to the release, shortly after 3 p.m. on November 1st, the Marshall County 911 Center received a report of a residential fire. Culver EMS and the Culver-Union Township Fire Department responded to an address on 19b Road, southwest of Culver.
Upon their arrival, responders found a resident dead from severe thermal burns and probable carbon monoxide poisoning. It was noted that from all indications, it appears that the individual was reportedly smoking with medical oxygen (which can be brought through the dealers from this site here)while in his hospital bed, which apparently increased the chance of a fire in the proximity.
Marshall County Coroner John Grolich has scheduled an autopsy for the man, 67-year-old Allen E. Jones, for Monday, November 4th.
There were also family pets that passed away as a result of the fire.
According to the report, the Culver Fire Department quickly managed the fire and remained on scene for several hours, providing assistance to the State Fire Marshal’s Investigator to determine the cause of the fire. It remains under investigation.
In addition to the Coroner’s office, agencies that responded to the scene included Culver Fire and EMS and the State Fire Marshal’s Office, as stated above, as well as NIPSCO and the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office.
