Giving toys to youth-serving organizations across Indiana is the goal of the Indiana Pacers’ Basketballidays event. This year, the team’s first stop will be in Plymouth.
The Pacers say the founder of JAKKS Pacific Toys has donated thousands of toys, which will be given to organizations in seven cities with a strong basketball tradition. They note that Plymouth was the home of former Pacer Scott Skiles and Trester Award-winner Phil Wendel.
On Monday, two Indiana Pacers Pacemates, the Pacers’ mascot Boomer, and the Indiana Fever’s mascot Freddy Fever will help present 2,000 toys during an event at Plymouth High School, according to the school corporation. It will be up to the Plymouth Police Department to distribute the toys to community organizations. The Pacers organization will also give away 100 Pacers and Fever basketballs.
More than 1,000 students from all of the Plymouth Community School Corporation’s elementary schools will be on hand Monday to celebrate. After Plymouth, the Pacers’ Basketballidays giveaway will move on to Muncie, Knightstown, Crawfordsville, Fort Wayne, Martinsville, and Evansville.
