Some of the efforts that students and staff took to assist the community during the Triton Gives Back Service Day on Friday, September 20th were highlighted during Monday’s school board meeting.
Superintendent Jeremy Riffle noted that a total of 1,000 individuals mobilized for the one sole purpose of loving out the Trojan Way, which is thinking of others over self.
During the day, some students wrote positive messages and drew pictures in chalk outside of Bourbon businesses and others created birdhouses out of recycled materials. Groups of students also helped deliver food to local pantries, participated in carwashes and visited area nursing homes.
Superintendent Riffle highlighted the fact that the school was able to surpass their goal when it came to blood donations from staff, students and community members.
He said they intended to collect 29 pints and at the end of the day, they had gathered a total of 41! He mentioned that 24 of the individuals who gave were first-time donors.
Next month, students will continue their philanthropic efforts with the annual ‘Feed Our Starving Children Event’.
On Thursday, November 7th, sixth-grade students and high schoolers will join together to assist malnourished children around the world. In past years, Triton students and staff were able to pack thousands of meals to provide food for hundreds of children.
In 2017, volunteers helped make 66,000 meals that went on to feed more than 165 children for one year. The following year, they prepared 93,312 meals that were able to feed about 255 children.
