The Plymouth Community School Corporation placed four schools on a lockout Thursday morning after a possible threat was reported to police.
The reason for the lockout was that the Plymouth Police Department reportedly received a call from a citizen stating that a person was on Columbus Drive, walking with a possible gun.
According to school officials, a lockout means that classes continue as normal within the building but access into or out of the building is screened by law enforcement or administrators. They stress that no school was on an actual lockdown.
The incident was immediately investigated by Plymouth PD, the person was located, it was discovered no weapon was involved and the lockout was lifted.
The four schools included Jefferson Elementary School, Riverside Intermediate, the Lincoln Junior High School and Plymouth High School.
The School Corporation issued a statement about the incident on social media, noting that they appreciate the efforts of law enforcement officials to keep the community and schools safe.
They also expressed gratitude for ensuring that administrators were aware of the situation so they could take the precautionary steps to place the nearby schools on a lockout until they were able to determine the situation was safe.
