Individuals interested in learning more about powering their home, farm, church, or business with solar energy won’t want to miss tomorrow’s Going Solar Workshop in Argos.
The workshop will be held in the Argos Municipal Building on Walnut Street at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 10th.
During the event, citizens will have a chance to learn about the benefits of this renewable energy source and what it would take to go solar. They’ll also receive some information about a grant that’s available to farmers and small business owners looking to tackle energy projects.
Additionally, the Michiana Area Council of Government is expected to present awards to Marshall County and the City of Plymouth in recognition of achievements in 2019 from the U.S. Department of Energy SolSmart program.
The Town of Argos has also taken some major steps to incorporate solar energy into the community in recent years.
Back in 2015, the Indiana Municipal Power Agency installed a solar park on Linden Road and the Argos Community School Corporation will soon take on a guaranteed energy savings project that will involve the installation of solar panels on the building’s roof.
A representative from Argos Schools will speak about their upcoming project during tomorrow’s workshop in addition to reps from other organizations that have completed solar projects such as Plymouth Products and the Center at Donaldson/Ancilla College.
Others in Marshall County have also been shifting their focus toward making the region more solar-friendly and solar-ready. During the workshop, county officials are expected to speak to how that’s being accomplished through training inspectors and firefighters and clarifying and amending solar procedures and permits.
